Dear Mr. President,
I Bought a Whirlpool Duet Sport Washer and Dryer about 2 years ago and they have been nothing but trouble. They have been repaired a couple of times and most recently we had a service tech from Sears over to look at them and he told us that they are not worth fixing. Here's the list of what went wrong.
- Both the main circuit boards failed 1.5 years in.
- Thelatch on the door broke 1.5 years in--ordered it 3 times, part never
arrived. We used a 2x4 wedged to the cabinet and I have some very
attractive photos of that. - The main bearing went out in the washer...so badly that it has finally stopped working.
- We paid a Sears service rep $100 to tell us to start saving our sheckles
for a new pair...he said neither were worth fixing. - Every 2 weeks we had to remove the front cover to take the change out of the
cleanout. Obviously those screws are very stripped and the bottom cover
doesn't go back on. - All the fins fell out of the dryer...so I screwed them back on about a week ago.
- The control knobs... on both the washer and dryer...you know, the ones that
were recalled? those both broke in the first month...the three service
reps that were here in the first couple of months all said they ordered
them, however they never arrived. - For the past year and 11 months (as soon as the warranty expired), the main brains of
both the washer and the dryer started flashing all numbers and controls
at once. You had to just press the button and pray it would start. - Every day or two the controls would lock up...and they would go into a
computer crash where no button would bring it back to life--so we would
just flip the breaker 2 or 3 times. The incessant beeping from the
malfunctioning unit kept the children awake many nights.
I've bought a few washers and dryers in my life--but this pair takes the cake.
I don't believe that when you spend $2000 on a washer and dryer that they should be landfill as soon as the warranty expires.
I don't believe this to be fair or equitable treatment. Warranty or no warranty, Whirlpool made
a very inferior product in this case and this needs to be made right.

Your Blog is awesome. I to have been victimized by Whirlpool. We have the Cabrio Washer $1199 new in 2007. The computer failed at 11 months, then other issues that kept us from doing laundry but not quite as expensive, now the bearings which requires a new tub at $500. We give up Whirlpool. Another Whirpool product to clog up our landfils ( I hate feeling like a disposable society). We're purchasing a new Washer, potentially a GE, Samsung, or LG (as long as Whirlpool didn't make it). I also feel strong sentiments for your statement that "Friends don't let friends buy Whirlpool" My new mission is to blog at least one time each day and find ways to spread the gospel to unsuspecting consumers about how they too will be ripped off and cheated if they purchase defective merchandise with many design flaws manufactured by Whirlpool and sold as Whirlpool, Kenmore, Maytag, Jenn-Air, Kitchen Aid, Magic Chef, Roper, Amana, gosh I hope I didn't forget any.
Whirlpool made me an offer though. If I'd like to pay $835.00 they would take my old washer and give me a brand new shiney one. Really, I'm not even kidding about this. Wow Whirlpool, what an offer! You are so generous with my money. At this point you would be money ahead to buy me a new GE appliance. That might shut me up as my new mission is to blog daily to share my Whirlpool experience with everyone I can.
Again, I love this site. You are my new hero for today.

I received a brand new washer and dryer with my new home. This is new construction so the washer and dryer were never used. The dryer arrived defective and needed a replacement motor. Within a couple of weeks of getting the motor replaced the dryer wouldn't vent as the blower wheel pulley had fallen off. The tech came out and fixed that, within a day, literally 2 loads, the pulley fell off again. Now I'm waiting for the 3rd motor to arrive. I've contacted Whirlpool and they tell me that at this point all they can do is pursue a repair pattern. I suggested that they would prefer that they come out to my house once a week until my warranty runs out and abandon me. If you can believe this, they slipped up and agreed with me! They back-pedaled when they realized what they had said; but we know better.
whirlpool duet wfw9450wwoo has a loud knocking noise started after warranty was out.talked to other people with same complaint. should be a recall or free repair.
If you don’t have place for full-size units, a laundry center is different option. These products combine a washer and dryer in one stacked unit. Laundry centers are more compact than full-size washers and dryers.
I'm so glad to have found something informative in your site. Thanks for sharing.
